LASIK is one of the most popular eye procedures seen today. With eye problems like myopia, hypermyopia, and astigmatism becoming so common in every age group, every caste, and every creed, science has found a wonderful way to solve all of them with just one solution – LASIK. Every teenager and adult who has any of these problems can successfully undergo the procedure to be able to see the world around them clearer and brighter without any aids, provided that they don’t have a faltering eye number. LASIK is thus, one of the most successful eye procedures you could undergo for a clearer sight.
Why LASIK?
LASIK comes with innumerous benefits, which makes it one of the best procedures across every other similar eye procedure; some of the best ones being –
LASIK is a safe procedure.
LASIK has proven to be a success for decades now.
LASIK is a quick procedure, requiring only 15 minutes invested for each eye.
LASIK requires no hospital stay (but yes, quite a few aftercare guidelines to follow).
LASIK makes your eyes completely independent, without having you to rely on glasses, contact lenses, or any other visual aids ever again (unless you encounter any other eye issue in the future).
What to expect?
It is important to know what you can expect before, during, and after the LASIK procedure to be well-prepared before you even plan to undergo it.
Before LASIK – You will be expected to undergo a thorough eye exam to determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK or not. If you are, you’ll be advised to stop wearing contact lenses for a certain period of time, at least two weeks before the surgery.
During LASIK – You will be given eye drops to numb your eyes so that they are ready for the surgery. You will then be made to lie down, and your eyes will be kept open with the help of a lid speculum. A suction ring will be applied to the front of the eye to prevent eye movements. Then, a corneal flap will be created, which will then be raised and the cornea reshaped as required with the help of a laser. The flap will then be placed back in place to let it heal. There should be no pain or discomfort due to the process as your eyes are numb, but the suction ring may be a little uncomfortable. However, this means only slight discomfort for 10-15 minutes, which we’re sure you can bear.
After LASIK – You may feel temporary uneasy or a burning or itching sensation in your eyes, but worry not, as all of this will go away with time. Also, your vision may be blurred for a while, or a few days, but your vision will improve and stabilize within a few days. You may get back to your normal routines from the next day itself, but it is advised you take a few days leave if you can. Also, avoid rubbing your eyes and applying makeup for a few days; and keep your eyes away from water, smoke, and dust until the doctor says that your eyes are perfectly alright.
